Our latest Military Salute goes out to Cody Blackwood:

Here's Cody Blackwood. He will be 21 this year. He's served overseas in Seoul, Korea for the past couple of years and has recently returned home. Cody will be going stateside on January 22 at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He's from Moline, IL. He's been involved with the military since July of 2009. Cody is specialized in Diesel Generator Equipment Repair and is a specialist E-4. He loves to work out and hang out with his friends. One day he hopes to do green to gold to become an officer. Everyone is so very proud of him and all he does for our country. He is a very good, hardworking man and deserves a salute for all he's done and all he's going to do for his country. God bless you, Cody.

Here's PFC Jasmine Trujillo, US Army, currently stationed in Central America.

Jasmine grew up in the Quad Cities and graduated from UTHS in East Moline before enlisting in the Army at 17 years old. Her mom tells us that signing the papers was the hardest thing she and Jasmine's dad ever had to do! Jasmine went to basic training at Ft. Still, OK, then AIT at Fort Meade, MD, then Ft. Bragg, NC.  Her MOS is 25 MIC, which means she designed posters, billboards, any communication with other countries in their own language. She graduated on June 4th and left for basic training on July 10, 2012--a flood of emotions when her mom had to say goodbye and put her on the bus for MEPS.  At first, her mom says her letters home were "I want to come home", but by her September, 2010 graduation--she was a soldier!  Sometimes now her mom asks her if she is scared or sad and she says, "No, mom, I'm a soldier, remember?".  All in all she is a young woman soldier proudly defending our freedom and helping others find their freedom. WLLR and CocaCola salute PFC Jasmine Trujillo!

Specialist Brent Douglas Hamblen, currently stationed in southern Afghanistan.

He is a Cavalry Scout for the United States Army.  Brent graduated from Sterling, IL High School a semester early and joined the Army when he was barely 18 (He turns 21 this December 18).  He left March 5, 2009 to pursue his life long dream of serving our Country.  He had talked about joining the Army since he was 7 or 8, long before he ever knew of the war that was about to happen with the events of 9-11.  It didn't scare him away from pursuing his dream of serving our country and fighting for our freedom.  He served his first year in Koreaand is now stationed at a home base in Fort Hood, TX. He did not spend much time there before heading to Afghanistan. He will be there until July of 2012.  Mrs Hamblen says her son has become an inspiration to her: “I never hear him complain about anything there. He has never complained about the food, how little sleep he gets or anything for that matter.  In fact, he looks at it as an adventure.  It's taking one of the hardest moments in life and turning it into a positive.  He will be spending his 21st birthday and Christmas there this year. I am so proud of him! P.S.  He is so worried about getting me a Christmas present. I told him just having him come home for a visit in February is the best gift in the world. It really is the little things that matter the most Thank you for reading about my favorite son (he is my only son and my only child).”
